Avengers: Infinity War to shoot in Scotland, budget reportedly £400 million

January 8, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in November Anthony and Joe Russo shared a location scouting photo for Avengers: Infinity War from Durham Cathedral in the North East of England, and it seems that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will also be heading north of the border, with The Telegraph reporting that the film will shoot in Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Highlands of Scotland.

The fact such a successful franchise will be filmed in Scotland will excite the fans but also provide a welcome boost to the economy,” said Lewis MacDonald, Scottish Labour culture spokesperson. “I hope the producers take advantage of the skills people in Scotland have to offer, so as many local people as possible can find work and Scotland’s fantastic creative community can go from strength to strength.”

The article also states that Infinity War has a budget of £400 million (that’s $490 million at current exchange rates), which would make it the most expensive movie of all time, a title currently held by Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides with $378.5 million.

What isn’t clear from the article is whether the production and the budget also includes the currently untitled Avengers 4, given that reports have suggested both that and Infinity War will shoot back-to-back. However, previous rumours had pegged the budget for the two movies at an astronomical $1 billion combined, so the math would work out if it is just Infinity War.

Avengers: Infinity War is set for release on May 2nd 2018, followed by Avengers 4 on May 3rd, 2019.
