George R.R. Martin thinks The Winds of Winter will be out this year

January 12, 2017 by Gary Collinson

For the past few years, author George R.R. Martin has refused to offer any predictions as to when we’ll see the release of The Winds of Winter, the sixth instalment of his A Song of Ice and Fire saga.

However, he’s now given fans hope that we’ll see the book in our lifetimes, posting on his blog that he believes it will hit bookstores this year.

“Not done yet, but I’ve made progress,” said Martin. “But not as much as I hoped a year ago, when I thought to be done by now. I think it will be out this year. (But hey, I thought the same thing last year).”

In the meantime, we do have the seventh season of the HBO adaptation Game of Thrones to look forward to this summer, which will presumably spoil even more surprises from The Winds of Winter (and maybe even the final book, A Dream of Spring).
