Into the Badlands actor Daniel Wu joins 2018’s Tomb Raider reboot

January 12, 2017 by Justin Cook

As 2018’s Tomb Raider reboot gears up to start shooting very soon, the film’s cast is beginning to come together. Following the news that Walton Goggins has signed on to play the main antagonist, Variety reports that actor Daniel Wu is joining the cast as Lu Ren, a ship captain who teams up with Alicia Vikander’s titular character “on a quest to find her father.”

Wu has over 70 credits to his name and has been working in the film and TV industry for almost two decades, but he’s undoubtedly best known in the US and UK for his roles in last year’s Warcraft and AMC’s Into the Badlands. When it comes to video game to film adaptations, hopefully Tomb Raider is more successful than Warcraft, which, although wasn’t an outright flop, received poor reviews and is unlikely to be granted a sequel.

Roar Uthaug will helm the adventure film, which is based on the hugely successful video game franchise and reportedly close in tone to the series’ 2013 reboot game, Tomb Raider. Warner Bros. has previously announced that the movie will hit theaters on March 16th, 2018.
