Fresh off the back of mammoth blockbuster Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, writer Gary Whitta has cast his gaze on another beloved sci-fi franchise, Star Trek.
With Rogue One – on which Whitta was credited for the story – doing so well, now would be the time to go after any other dream projects. And this seems to be just Whitta is doing, mentioning that writing for Star Trek would be very interesting to him.
Speaking to Loot Crate for their most recent subscription box, the writer had this to say after speaking about his passion project, Mouse Guard: “Beyond that, if I were ever given the chance to write something in the Star Trek universe, I would jump at it.”
Whitta, who has recently written three episodes of the animated series Star Wars Rebels, has previously penned an unused script for Star Trek: Voyager, entitled ‘Origin of the Species’, which delved into the origin of the Borg [read it here].
Simon Pegg is currently working on the script for Star Trek 4, so Whitta may be limited on the feature film side of things at present; however, CBS does have the television series Star Trek: Discovery on the horizon, so knowing how well he tackled the science fiction of Star Wars, Whitta’s name will likely be looked at quite kindly should any opportunities become available.
