Logan may not be Patrick Stewart’s final appearance as Professor X

February 16, 2017 by Ricky Church

It’s no secret that Logan will most likely be Hugh Jackman’s last time portraying the fan-favourite mutant Wolverine on film, but the same cannot be said for Patrick Stewart’s Professor X.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Stewart suggested he may be up for future X-Men films, stating that: “Hugh has raised the flag that says goodbye. I haven’t done that yet.”

It has been rumoured previously that Stewart may come back for another X-Men outing and with X-Men: Apocolypse’s Sophie Turner revealing that a new film will begin production this year, perhaps Stewart could end up being Xavier once again, particularly if Fox fails to reach a deal to renew James McAvoy’s contract.

Stewart also took time to speak about working with Jackman for so many of the X-Men films and the actor’s time as Wolverine. “His charm and modesty and likeability has never changed,” Stewart said. “What has changed is the actor. His work throughout the franchise is compelling and powerful and witty and very entertaining and I believe what he does in Logan is quite extraordinary. The aging, the sadness, the weariness, the borderline despair he exhibits coupled with that edge that has always been there is quite remarkable.” He also briefly spoke about Dafne Keen as the young X-23, saying “She is a phenomenon.”

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

Logan is being helmed by The Wolverine director James Mangold and will see Hugh Jackman joined in the cast by Patrick Stewart as Professor X, along with new additions Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Dafne Keen, Eriq La Salle, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Elise Neal. It is set for release on March 1st in the UK and March 3rd in North America.
