Joss Whedon talks about his rejected Wonder Woman movie

February 21, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Back before Joss Whedon hit the big time with his colossal Marvel hits The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, the director had his heart set on helming a Wonder Woman movie which Warner Bros. ultimately rejected.

One can’t imagine Whedon gets many projects rejected nowadays, considering the considerable success of his work on Marvel’s Avengers films, but this wasn’t always the case as back in the early 2000’s the director had his script for a Wonder Woman movie turned down, and Whedon recently spoke about the failed project during an interview with Empire Magazine.

“I worked really hard on that movie and it meant a lot [to me], but I don’t know if what I was trying to do would fit in with what [the studio’s] vision is. I had to take on the film that, well, nobody liked… We just saw different movies, and at the price range this kind of movie hangs in, that’s never gonna work”.

Whedon certainly seems a little regretful that the movie he had worked so hard on never saw the light of day but one imagines he is also pretty happy with how his career has panned out since.

Fans can finally see Wonder Woman in solo action when her movie lands this summer.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman will hit cinemas on June 2nd, 2017 with a cast that includes Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure) and Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead).
