After last month’s rather jaw-dropping cliff-hanger, in which Mike Johnson awoke numerous scores of Augments and Kirk’s number one nemesis Khan, Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds suddenly felt like it ramped up a gear. Yes there were many hundreds of Manhunters ripping the Enterprise out of Warp but Khannnnnnnnnn!
With Guy Gardner, Stewart and Kilowog confronting Khan who now holds the red ring of an unconscious Atrocitus – currently under his boot – the three Green Ring Bearers attempt to persuade the 20th Century Superhuman to pass over this devastating ring of power. However due to a careless tongue, Khan is informed of the ace he now holds, so with the slightest amount of pressure applied from his foot the Red Ring chooses Khan Noonien Singh and all hell breaks loose.
Upon the Enterprise, Hal Jordan and Carol approach the Manhunters, as these are the earlier models and not the Galaxy wiping variety they hope to appeal to their more rational side. Though when this fails, Spock engages the tractor beam and holds the Manhunters firmly at bay. During a discussion on board the Enterprise with a designated Manhunter, Hal Jordan informs them of why he’s here and what he believes Sinestro is planning.
Over on Qo’nos we find Sinestro, dressed in the armour of the Manhunters, ready to begin his next step in his plan to rule.
Everything is happening in this issue. Everything! From the opening pages of the Manhunters wanting to tear the Enterprise open, to Khan taking control of the rage-feeding red ring and then to Sinestro wearing the armour of the Manhunters. All the pieces of Mike Johnson’s story have been moved at once and this board looks fantastic! One of my favourite moves alone was Guy Gardner accidentally giving Khan the instructions on how to gain control of the Red Ring, and Khan did it so perfectly.
This excellent comic is made even more so fantastic by the brilliant art and colours of Angel Hernandez and Mark Roberts, who have delivered something here that not only looks good but glows. The panel in which Star Sapphire and the Green Lantern (Hal) are designated as thieves by the Manhunters is almost blinding!
Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds #3 is outstanding and we’re only halfway through this series. Grab this off the shelves today for you really shan’t be disappointed.
