Aquaman’s Jason Momoa joins video game adaptation Just Cause from Hitman: Agent 47 producer

March 8, 2017 by admin

The video game movie train keeps rolling off the successes of Warcraft and The Angry Birds Movie (though not so much Assassin’s Creed), and it’s been announced that Adrian Askeriah’s long-gestating Just Cause adaptation has found its star.

The Wrap has revealed that Game of Thrones and Aquaman star Jason Momoa has boarded the project to play Rico Rodriguez, and it will be directed by Brad Peyton (who is also directing the Rampage adaptation starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson).

The film is set to be produced by Adrian Askeriah, who also brought Agent 47 to the big screen with Hitman and 2015’s Hitman: Agent 47. Interestingly, the film is also being produced and funded by Mason Xu and Fan Dong of DNA who are a Chinese based company. Although Duncan Jones’ Warcraft was a cinematic flop domestically, it pulled in huge numbers in China which meant the film was a financial success. Its sequel – which isn’t happening any time soon by all accounts – was rumoured to be made solely for the Chinese market. With DNA funding the movie, could Just Cause appeal more to the Chinese market than the North American one?

No start date has been revealed for Just Cause, but the film has been written by John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World).
