Drake to appear in third series of UK crime drama Top Boy

April 5, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Having picked up the rights to the series after it was dropped by Channel 4, it looks like Canadian rapper Drake is set to appear in the third series of the UK crime drama Top Boy, which is set to hit Netflix in 2018.

“We met up to start talking about the show and we are working out a role for him,” Top Boy star Ashley Walters tells The Daily Mirror. “He loves acting, of course he wanted a part. He’s going to be really hands on and is getting stuck into it. He is such a down to earth, nice guy. He’s so famous you would expect him to be this crazy character but he’s actually quite boring, in a good way. I had a meeting with him and I brought all of my kids along. My eldest was chatting away in his ear for ages and he was just cool.”

Drake began his career as an actor, appearing on the teen drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation, before shifting his focus towards music. He has reportedly expressed his desire to return in front of the camera, and it seems that Top Boy could provide the opportunity he’s been looking for.

Premiering on Channel 4 in 2011, Top Boy takes place in the fictional crime-ridden Summerhouse housing estate in Hackney, East London, with Walters playing Dushane, a young dealer with ambitions of becoming the top man in the local drug trade.
