Director Rian Johnson talks Star Wars: The Last Jedi opening crawl

April 17, 2017 by Robert Kojder

Ever since information came to light that Star Wars: The Last Jedi would begin immediately where Star Wars: The Force Awakens ended, fans debated whether the next episode would continue the tradition of featuring an opening crawl or forgoing it simply because there might not be much to say.

It turns out that there is quite a bit to talk about, as director Rian Johnson revealed during an interview with MTV: “Even if it picks up right where the last one left off, there’s still a lot of unanswered questions about what the state of everything is. We were able to fill three paragraphs.”

With Star Wars Celebration taking place over the weekend, we’ve posted a wealth of news on Star Wars: The Last Jedi and other aspects of the galaxy far, far away, and you can find all of our coverage here.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set for release on December 15th and sees returning cast members Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke), Peter Mayhew and Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Tim Rose (Admiral Ackbar), Mike Quinn (Nien Nunb), Simon Pegg (Unkar Plutt), and Warwick Davis joined by new additions Jimmy Vee (Pan) as R2-D2, Kelly Marie Tran (Ladies Like Us) as Rose, and Benicio Del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Laura Dern (Jurassic Park).
