Mads Mikkelsen to star in survival thriller Arctic

April 21, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Originally published April 21, 2017. Updated April 15, 2018.

Mads Mikkelsen has been cast as the lead in a survival thriller movie entitled Arctic, as reported by Deadline.

Enjoying the most successful spell of his career — all starting with the title role in NBC’s Hannibal, and continuing that success with last year’s high profile roles in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Doctor Strange — Mads is now setting off for colder climates to star in a new survival thriller.

Mikkelsen will be reunited with his Hannibal executive producer Martha De Laurentiis on the project, which will tell the story of a man stranded in the Arctic, who is then forced, after his rescue falls through, to either return to his camp or venture forward for potential salvation.

Joe Penna is scheduled to direct the movie, and will also write the script along with Ryan Morrison.

Arctic will come via Armory Films who had their Sundance flick Mudbound purchased by Netflix for $12.5 million, which was the biggest sale of the festival. As yet, there’s no set release date.
