According to Variety, Shia LaBeouf has signed on to star in the indie adventure drama The Peanut Butter Falcon, which is being written and directed by Tyler Nilson and Mike Schwartz.
Described as “in the vein of a Mark Twain tale”, the film will follow Zak, “a young man with Down syndrome, who runs away from the nursing home where he lives to pursue his dream of becoming a professional wrestler and attending the Saltwater Redneck wrestling school. Through circumstances beyond their control, a small-time outlaw also on the run (to be played by LaBeouf) becomes Zak’s unlikely coach and ally.”
LaBeouf was most recently seen in American Honey and Man Down (the latter of which only managed to sell a single ticket during its opening weekend in the UK), and will next appear as John McEnroe in the tennis biopic Borg vs. McEnroe.
