The Resident Evil movie franchise is being rebooted

May 21, 2017 by Gary Collinson

If you thought Resident Evil: The Final Chapter was the final chapter, then think again…

Constantin Film has revealed to Variety that it is in early development on a reboot of the Resident Evil movie franchise, which shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise given the series’ success at the box office.

Details are scarce at present, and it’s unclear whether Constantin has any talent attached to the project. Also uncertain is whether Paul W.S. Anderson – who wrote all six of the original movies, and directed four – will remain involved in any capacity.

The adaptation of the enormously popular Capcom video game series launched in 2002, with the sixth entry Resident Evil: The Final Chapter released earlier this year. In total, the films have grossed $1.235 billion worldwide, which makes it Europe’s most successful independent horror franchise, and the highest-grossing film series based on a video game IP.
