Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton cast as Cannonball in X-Men: The New Mutants

May 31, 2017 by Ricky Church

There’s been a lot of talk of Fox’s X-Men spin-off New Mutants recently, and now we have word of an additional piece of casting for the movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stranger Things‘ Charlie Heaton has entered talks to join the film, where he will portray the character of Cannonball.

Cannonball’s mutant power gives himself the ability to propel himself in the air at incredible speeds, becoming invulnerable while he does so. He is joining the previously cast Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) as Magik and Rosario Dawson (The Defenders) as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.

Director Josh Boone has said that the film will be different from the previous X-Men films, describing it as a “full-fledged horror”. The logline reads: “Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.”

X-Men: The New Mutants will enter production in July in Boston for a release date of April 12, 2018.
