Brian K. Vaughan, co-creator of Marvel’s The Runaways, has seen the pilot episode for the upcoming television adaptation, and has recently spoke to CBR.com to give his thoughts on the pilot, and the project in general:
“I just did a little consulting early in the process, but I think the Runaways found the ideal ‘foster parents’ in Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. They took a weird comic set in the Marvel Universe of 2002 and lovingly adapted it into a stylish drama that feels like contemporary Los Angeles. Love the cast, crew and especially the writers they assembled. And the pilot looks like an Adrian Alphona comic! I can’t wait to watch this first season unfold.”
It is definitely a sigh of relief when the creator of any property gives an adaptation his/her blessing. Streaming proves once again to be the place for niche television. In a world where we have the Avengers soon heading into space, and a television show starring X-Men’s Legion on FX, The Runaways no longer feels like such an outlandish idea to bring to TV, and will likely be embraced by audiences. After all, Marvel Studios has had a lot of success adapting its franchises for the small screen.
