The Last Jedi opening early, Star Wars: Episode IX update, live-action Cowboy Bebop and more – Daily News Roundup

June 7, 2017 by admin

THE EARLY JEDI

Good news Star Wars fans – at least UK fans – as it was announced yesterday that the hotly-anticipated Star Wars: The Last Jedi will hit theatres a day early here. That means that the film will now open on December 14th (which happens to be my birthday!). Read more here.

SWEET CHRISTMAS

Also announced yesterday was the start of production for Luke Cage season two. With The Defenders now in the bag and Jessica Jones‘ second season production underway, we should hear something soon about the third season of Daredevil, and a second outing for Iron Fist. Read more here.

EPISODE IX

Following the tragic passing of Carrie Fisher, there have been a lot of questions surrounding her role in Star Wars: Episode IX. There were rumours that she would appear (a la Peter Cushing in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), which were then shut down by Kathleen Kennedy and a new interview with director Colin Trevorrow has further updates. “[General Leia] was a major character, that’s not a secret,” he said. “She really was. And it was extremely sad for all of us, mostly just because she was so loved by the Star Wars family and everyone that worked with her. I feel like our options are limited mostly by ourselves, in that there [are] only certain things that we are willing to do. But I can guarantee it will be handled with love and respect, and all of the soul that Carrie Fisher deserves.” Read more here.

THE LAST KNIGHT

The Last Jedi isn’t the only last thing happening in 2018, and Paramount have released twelve new posters for Transformers: The Last Knight, which you can check out here.

SEE YOU SPACE COWBOY

After a live-action movie being in development for nearly ten years, it was announced yesterday that Thor: Ragnarok scribe Christopher Yost is working on a TV show of classic anime Cowboy Bebop. Read more here.

IMPOSSIBLE MISSIONS CONTINUE

The Mission: Impossible franchise is heading back into theatres for a sixth outing, and director Christopher McQuarrie has given some insights into what we can expect. “I was determined, unlike the last movie, to spend more time in one location,” said McQuarrie. “I went back and I looked at the first movie, which started in Prague, and realized that they’re in Prague for the first half of the movie. So, I sort of pulled back a little bit on the globe-trotting. I think in Rogue Nation I think we might have been in six countries in the first ten minutes of the movie. The problem with something like Mission, the action is dictating the narrative. And I was determined to change that in this movie. And I started with that. I started with more of an emotional story for this character and more of a character arc within it. It’s definitely more of an emotional journey for Ethan Hunt in that movie. But then the action comes in. And the ambitions of that action, so there’s a sequence at the end of the movie which is fabulous. It’s never been done. It’s all photo real. It’s going to be incredible. You then have to create the contrivances for that sequence to happen.” Read more here.

ARTICLE OF THE DAY

Anghus Houvouras is back once again, this time turning his attention to Alien: Covenant (which he was not a fan of), and which character he felt should have died. Read more here.
