Marvel to remain tight-lipped on Phase Four of the MCU until Avengers: Infinity War concludes

June 26, 2017 by Robert Kojder

With the hotly anticipated Spider-Man: Homecoming set to release in a little over a week, Marvel film chief Kevin Feige has been out doing the press rounds, and found himself explaining that details on Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be relatively scarce until the conclusion of Avengers: Infinity War.

Speaking to io9, Feige stated “I hope [the news comes] after that. I think there will be certain elements that start to come about, not the least of which is the already announced release date of the next Spider-Man film. But other than that we’re going to keep it very close to the vest because this is really about focusing on the unprecedented conclusion to a 22-movie overarching narrative.”

It makes sense to keep everything as tight-lipped as possible, as anything from film titles to renegotiated contracts can be seen as a spoiler in some way. Even so, the Internet loves diving deep into the meaning behind each and every piece of information, so it’s simply wise to withhold as much as possible. Avengers: Infinity War is a huge milestone not just for blockbuster filmmaking, but cinema in general, so it’s understandable that Marvel wants to stay extremely secretive.

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27th 2018 in the UK and May 4th 2018 in the US and will feature an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Sean Gunn (Rocket) Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Sean Gunn (Kraglin), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Winston Duke (Man-Ape) and Peter Dinklage and Terry Notary in unconfirmed roles.
