Tom Holland wants to see fresh Spider-Man villains in the MCU

June 27, 2017 by Robert Kojder

Even without having seen the movie yet, it’s clear that one of the more refreshing aspects of the hotly anticipated next entry in the MCU, Spider-Man: Homecoming, is utilizing The Vulture (played by Michael Keaton), a villain that has not been put to the big screen before.

There are of course those fans who want to see this universe’s take on classic antagonists such as Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus. However, Peter Parker himself Tom Holland is not one of those people.

Speaking to CinemaBlend to promote the quickly approaching blockbuster, Holland said that: “I agree with Amy [Pascal]. I think Spider-Man is a character that has so many rich villains. We should be exploring people that we haven’t seen before, rather than people we have seen in the past.”

There are certainly a number of threatening baddies to choose from, and Holland himself has previously expressed his interest in seeing Spider-Man go up against Kraven the Hunter (although that may now be complicated by Sony’s plans for a Kraven spinoff movie outside of the MCU).

Which villains would you like to see in the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel(s)? Let us know in the comments below…

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Spider-Man: Homecoming sees Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei reprising their roles from Captain America: Civil War as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Aunt May, alongside Marvel veterans Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts and Chris Evans as Captain America. New additions to the cast include Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Bokeem Woodbine, Tyne Daly, Michael Barbieri, Abraham Attah, Hannibal Buress, Kenneth Choi, Angourie Rice, Michael Chernus, Michael Mando, Logan Marshall-Green and Jennifer Connelly.
