Kevin Bacon-headlined Tremors TV series gets pilot order at Syfy

June 27, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in November 2015 it was announced that Kevin Bacon was attached to a TV adaptation of the cult 1990 film Tremors, and now comes word that Syfy has placed a pilot order for the potential series.

The series is written by Andrew Miller (The Secret Circle) and will see Perfection, NV once again coming under threat by the killer Graboid worms. To defeat them, the town turns to Valentine McKee (Bacon), who beat them once – but to do it again he’ll have to overcome age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex.

“This is the only character I’ve played that I’ve ever thought about revisiting,” said Bacon. “I just got to thinking, ‘Where would this guy end up after 25 years?’ Andrew Miller has a fantastic take on it, and we hope to create a show that will be fun and scary for fans of the movie and folks that have yet to discover it. Let’s kick some Graboid ass!”

“We are so pleased to continue our partnership with Syfy and UCP in reviving this cult classic with none other than Kevin Bacon as Valentine McKee,” added Jason Blum, who is producing for Blumhouse TV. “We look forward to thrilling original fans and new audiences alike.”

Released in 1990, Tremors quickly became a cult favourite, and was followed by four direct-to-video sequels – Tremors 2: Aftershocks, Tremors 3: Back to Perfection, Tremors 4: The Legend Begins and Tremors 5: Bloodlines – with a sixth instalment set for release next year. The Sci-Fi Channel also aired a short-lived spinoff series in 2003, which ran for just 13 episodes.
