Daniel Craig likely to star in Bond 25

July 19, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Originally published July 19, 2017. Updated October 26, 2018.

As The Mirror claimed last week, Daniel Craig will reportedly take the lead role in the next Bond movie, despite the fact that back in 2015 the 49-year-old English actor stated that he was not keen on portraying the famous spy again . However, it seems that the 007 agent in Bond 25 will in fact be played by Craig and not rumoured candidates such as Tom Hardy (although many found him perfect for the role) or The Night Manager’s Tom Hiddleston – the latter of whom was said to have be deemed “too smug and not tough enough” by the franchise producer Barbara Broccoli.

Daniel Craig is the seventh actor to play James Bond since the film adaptations of this famous literary character started in 1962, with Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore — who passed away in May this year — Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan all preceding him. Craig’s first time as the world’s most famous fictional spy was in the film adaptation of Ian Fleming’s first Bond novel, Casino Royale, and then in Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre. The Bond films he has starred in have been the most financially successful to date, which is likely one of the reasons why Eon Productions was interested in bringing Craig for the role.

Moreover, word has it that Christopher Nolan will possibly be in charge of directing Bond 25, which would in turn translate into an almost certain success at the box office, although the director has not confirmed his involvement in the new 007 film. However, it would certainly be interesting to see which twists Nolan could introduce to the Bond franchise, which has changed greatly since the first film adaptation, Dr. No, was released.

As for the theme song, a leitmotif in the famous saga, it is also possible that Grammy Award winner and best-selling British singer Adele will once again lend her voice to the franchise. In 2012, she co-wrote and recorded Skyfall, which received an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2013. Thus, with the possible scenario of having Craig as the lead character, Christopher Nolan as the director and Adele singing for Bond 25, the upcoming 007 film is likely to continue the series’ hugely successful run, following more than half a century of screen adaptations of Fleming’s famous spy.
