Snow White and the Huntsman screenwriter signs on for G.I. Joe 3

September 10, 2013 by admin

After the box-office success of this year’s Hasbro sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Paramount Pictures were quick to give the “Yo Joe!” to a third movie in the action franchise. Retaliation helmer Jon M. Chu was quickly tied up to return to the director’s chair for the third instalment, and now The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that screenwriter Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman) has signed on to pen the script.

Since selling his spec script for Snow White and the Huntsman to Universal, Daugherty is quickly establishing a solid reputation among the studios, having impressed Paramount with a rewrite on the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, as well as adapting Veronica Roth’s 2012 young adult novel Divergent for Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment.

As yet, G.I. Joe 3 is without an official release date and no actors have been confirmed as returning to the cast, although Chu has expressed his interest in reuniting Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock) and Bruce Willis (General Joe Colton) – with The Rock in particular sounding very keen – as well as opening the door for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra star Rachel Nichols to return as Scarlett.
