It director and producer would like to remake Stephen King’s Pet Sematary

August 7, 2017 by Gary Collinson

It seems that the It directing and producing team of siblings Andy and Barbara Muschietti are looking to expand their Stephen King output beyond the upcoming adaptation of the 1986 novel.

Speaking to The Toronto Sun, Barbara revealed that the duo hold the film rights to King’s 1981 short story The Jaunt, but are particularly interested in bringing another of his novels (back) to the big screen.

“We’re huge fans of Pet Sematary,”  If we can get our hands on that and do the Pet Sematary we want to do, that will be something. One day, maybe.”

Published in 1983, Pet Sematary follows a family who move to a small town near a busy highway. Near to their new house is a pet cemetery, beyond which is an ancient Indian burial ground that can bring the dead back to life.

Pet Sematary was previously adapted as a feature in 1989, with the sequel Pet Sematary Two following in 1992. A remake was announced back in 2010, although it never made it out of the development stage. Perhaps the Muschiettis will be the ones to resurrect it.
