Charlie Cox says that Daredevil season 3 could include elements of Born Again

August 27, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Warning: Spoilers for The Defenders follow…

With Charlie Cox preparing to go into production on the third season of Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil, the actor has been chatting to THR about what’s in store for the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen following the events of The Defenders.

The Marvel team-up series ending with the world believing Daredevil to be dead, only for the audience to see Matt Murdock in a covenant in a shot that will be instantly familiar to fans of the ‘Born Again’ comic book arc. And, according to Cox, we may see elements of the 1986 storyline from Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli in the third season of the show:

“That’s such an amazing story. Everyone who loves Daredevil loves ‘Born Again’. You can’t not. And if that’s the case, then the implications of that would be very exciting to me. That would be great. Having said that, I know we don’t tend to follow any story blueprints too closely, because if you do, then you become a foregone conclusion. There may be elements from ‘Born Again’, but I’m sure there will be elements that are unfamiliar and surprising and different in order for the show to be compelling to fans who know the comics very well. If we start making ‘Born Again’ page-for-page, then the people who have read it and loved it — the hardcore fans — they won’t have too much drama.”

If you’re unfamiliar with ‘Born Again’, the story sees Matt Murdock hitting rock bottom after the Kingpin discovers his secret identity and uses his influence to destroy Matt’s reputation and his professional and personal life, while enlisting the services of Nuke – a.k.a. Jessica Jones’ Will Simpson (Wil Traval) – to take down Daredevil.
