Death Note director nearly helmed the new Halloween movie

August 31, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Adam Wingard, the director of Death Note, nearly directed the upcoming Halloween reboot.

Netflix’s adaptation of Death Note, the famed Japanese anime and manga, has recently hit the streaming service, opening up a whole new audience to the dark fantasy tale.

The director of the movie, which stars Willem Dafoe, has recently revealed that he nearly took the reins of another big property, the proposed reboot of Halloween.

David Gordon Green and Danny McBride are currently working on this latest telling of the classic horror story, but Wingard has spilled the beans on his near involvement during The Movie Crypt Podcast (via Screen Rant).

“You know, I almost actually did the Halloween movie that they’re doing. It almost happened, but the deal just kinda fell apart. When I found out those rights were available I was immediately trying to figure out how to get in on that. But ultimately what I realized was I kinda already made my Halloween movie with The Guest. So it felt like it would be retreading on that kind of thing. In a way though, I still want to do a Halloween movie.”

If he’s still interested, taking on high profile projects like Death Note certainly won’t harm his chances of being involved in such future endeavours, especially if Death Note proves a success for Netflix.
