Comic book adaptation The Boys lands at Amazon

September 11, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in 2015 it was announced that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were looking to follow up Preacher with another Garth Ennis adaptation in The Boys, and now comes word that Amazon has placed a script order.

The Boys is being written by Eric Kripke (Supernatural) with Rogen and Goldberg set to direct. According to Variety, the project is being eyed as a straight-to-series pickup at the streaming service, which is said to be refining its approach to focus on shows with broad, global appeal.

Created by Ennis and Darick Robertson and published between 2006 and 2012, The Boys “is set in a time where most of the superheroes are corrupted by their celebrity status and often engage in reckless behavior, compromising the safety of the world. It centers on a CIA squad, known informally as “the boys,” whose job is to keep watch on the proliferation of superheroes and, if necessary, eliminate some of them.”

In addition to The Boys, Amazon has also placed a series order for Tong Wars, a period drama from Wong Kar-wai, along with an as-yet-untitled comedy starring Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph. Pilot order have also been placed for Making Friends, a half-hour comedy from How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, and Upload, a single camera comedy set in the future, which has been created by Greg Daniels (The Office).
