James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli considering female director for Bond 25

September 13, 2017 by Jordan Jones

While we finally have confirmation that Daniel Craig is returning to the franchise, we still don’t have much concrete information regarding Bond 25. We do get the occasional hint, however.

For example, during the premiere of her movie Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool, James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli told reporters, on the topic of directors for Bond 25, that “of course” she would consider a female director for the 25th James Bond, while also sharing how pleased she was to be working with so many females on the set of Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool:

“There are a lot of women working on this production which pleases me very much. It’s incredibly important to support a change in front of and behind the camera. I love working with women. It’s a different vibe. We have to promote women within the industry. Women are often tasked with taking care of children and ailing parents, so it’s hard for some women to sustain a career in this industry. We have to be more family-friendly, with childcare, flexible hours and job shares. At Eon, we have a lot of women doing job sharing and it’s easy with technology.”

It sounds like Barbara Broccoli has been inspired by her recent projects, and after Patty Jenkins’ success with Wonder Woman, the potential for a female director helming Bond 25 is definitely high. While this would make for a very interesting film, it begs the question: would a female director be the right fit for 007 ? Even Daniel Craig has been rumored to dislike the misogynist nature of Bond. How would a female director handle this, and if she were to alter the character, making him less misogynistic, would it take away Bond’s identity? Love him, or hate him: James Bond is who he is. Flaws and all.
