Linda Hamilton is returning to the Terminator franchise, new film a direct sequel to T2

September 20, 2017 by Ricky Church

Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t the only one who will be back in Tim Miller’s The Terminator reboot. At a special screening of Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D in Los Angeles last night, Miller and franchise creator and producer James Cameron announced that Linda Hamilton, Sarah Connor herself, will be returning to reprise her role in the sequel/reboot.

“As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return,” Cameron said to the crowd of fans. “There are 50-year old, 60-year old guys out there killing bad guys [in movies] but there isn’t an example of that for women.”

The Hollywood Reporter is also saying that Miller’s Terminator will be the first in a new trilogy and a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day. They have also assembled a writer’s room to plan out this new trilogy; joining them will be David Goyer, Charles Eglee and Josh Friedman. Friedman has notably worked on The Terminator franchise before, creating the short-lived Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles that lasted two seasons on FOX with Game of Thrones‘ Lena Headey as Sarah Connor.

Cameron is preparing to film his long-gestating and ambitious Avatar sequels back-to-back. He also stirred some controversy for himself recently as he spoke out against Patty Jenkins and Wonder Woman, claiming it did not improve female representation in action movies and directly contrasted Wonder Woman to Sarah Connor.
