Chris McKay is “casting a wide net” to find the “perfect person” for Nightwing

September 27, 2017 by Jordan Jones

We have been treated to a few pieces of news regarding the live-action Nightwing movie recently. This past month, director Chris Mckay has revealed that he plans on making a “visceral”, and badass” film with lots of “heart and emotion”. He also stressed that this movie won’t end up being a CGI fever dream, as he’s looking for an actor who can do all of his own stunts.

Now, this has sparked tons of speculation over who could play Dick Grayson. Names like Finn Wittrock, Steven Yeun, and even Zac Efron have been thrown around. However, according to Chris McKay himself, we shouldn’t necessarily count on Nightwing being played by a well-known actor. Taking to Twitter, McKay decided to put a fan at ease with this piece of information…

Reading the above Tweets, it’s easy to draw parallels to Marvel’s casting of Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Marvel cast Holland, among other reasons, due to his ability to perform acrobatics, which is something that Dick Grayson is obviously known for. Though, McKay has stated that Warner Bros. is “not following the Marvel model”. Still, Dick Grayson is a very technical role, and will require an actor capable of handling that level of physicality.
