The last time that 20th Century Fox attempted an adaptation of the classic X-Men story arc The Dark Phoenix Saga, we ended up with 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, which saw the Phoenix pretty much taking a back seat in favour of the “mutant cure” storyline.
Well, Fox and The Last Stand writer Simon Kinberg are now taking a second stab at bringing the story to the screen with next year’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and while recent reports have suggested it will be “grounded” and “not too intergalactic” and may even include The Skrulls rather than the Shi’Ar Empire, Storm actress Alexandra Shipp has now claimed that the movie will be “very accurate to the comics.”
“As a fan of X-Men, you are going to be very happy, because I’m a huge fan of X-Men and so is our director, Simon Kinberg, who’s also writing and executive producing it,” Shipp tells Deadline. “He is not letting anything go. It’s very accurate to the comics and he really gives the fans what they’ve been asking for, in my opinion. All I can say is that you’re really going to like it.”

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set for release on November 2nd, 2018. Simon Kinberg is directing a cast that includes franchise veterans Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) and Evan Peters (Quicksilver) alongside new additions Jessica Chastain and Lamar Johnson.
