Michael Bay to produce a live-action Dora the Explorer movie

October 24, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Having called time on the Transformers franchise after this year’s Transformers: The Last Knight, it seems that Michael Bay is turning his attention to another children’s cartoon series, with THR reporting that Bay has signed on to produce a live-action Dora the Explorer movie.

According to the site, Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller will produce the movie for Paramount, with Nicholas Stoller (The Muppets, Neighbors) coming on board to work on the script. Paramount had previously set Tom Wheeler (Puss in Boots) to pen an adaptation back in 2015, although that project failed to come together.

Unlike the TV series, where she is portrayed as a 7-year-old, the live-action movie will reportedly focus on Dora as a teenager who moves to the city to live with her cousin Diego. A 2019 release date is being eyed.

Dora the Explorer ran for 172 episodes between 2000 and 2014 on Nickelodeon, and has spawned a host of merchandising, such as video games and even a stage show.
