Jon Hamm denies rumours linking him to Marvel’s Doctor Strange

August 22, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Back in January, a “report” emerged claiming that Mad Men star Jon Hamm had signed on the dotted line to portray the Sorcerer Supreme in Marvel’s then-without-so-much-as-a-director-attached Doctor Strange movie.

While it came from a dubious source, the story still managed to pick up some traction; however, Hamm has now put the rumour to rest, confirming to Digital Spy that he’s never been approached by Marvel about the role:

“The funny thing about the internet is you can have rumors go on about possible jobs, and possible things that you have no idea… Maybe [it was true], I don’t know. You know, it’s funny when the internet knows more about you than you do, but maybe they’ve been talking to someboyd high up at Marvel. Maybe the internet was talking to Marvel. I don’t know. I know I certainly wasn’t approached about it, but I do like Doctor Strange, he”s a very cool character.”

Hamm isn’t the only name to have been brought up in contention for Doctor Strange, with Johnny Depp, Jared Leto and Benedict Cumberbatch all rumoured to have been in consideration, and Joaquin Phoenix said to be high on Marvel’s wanted list.

Who would you like to see playing Doctor Strange? Let us know your pick for the role…
