Stranger Things creators talk season 3 plot, and what may carry over from the current season

November 6, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Stranger Things 2 is officially on Netflix, and while the wait was excruciating, this season has ended up being sweeter than a Three Musketeers bar. There has been several days to finish the season a this point, and while many are waiting for that nostalgia buzz to wear off, thoughts may naturally shift to Season 3. What’s it going to look like? There was a hint of something at the end of this current season, but that’s all. Talking to Slashfilm, The Duffer Brothers themselves talked a bit about their decision to include that tease:

“There were discussions about that, but then we went, ‘Nah, we have to hint at what’s to come.’ The hope we wanted people to get out of it is that this thing [is still out there]. They’ve shut the door on the Mind Flayer, but not only is it still there in the Upside Down, it’s very much aware of the kids, and particularly Eleven. It had not encountered her and her powers until that final episode. Now, it knows that she’s out there. We wanted to end on a little bit of an ominous note on that level.”

However, they also stressed that we shouldn’t take any tease at the end of season 2 as a sign of things to come:

“Last year, we had a lot of little cliffhangers at the end of the season. We didn’t want to do that again. We didn’t want to box ourselves in for season three. We wanted to be able to start season three on a very clean slate. It felt totally unnecessary, when we had the Snow Ball. Once we had the Snow Ball, we didn’t know [if we wanted to do] anything else as an ending.”

With Stranger Things Season 4 already confirmed, it looks like we will be paying multiple visits to Hawkins, Indiana (and beyond). However, with a Season 3 release date of late 2018 scheduled, it seems that we are in for quite a wait.

It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.

The second season of Stranger Things sees the return of cast members Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer and Joe Keery, along with new additions Sean Astin (The Goonies), Paul Reiser (Aliens), Linnea Berthelsen (The Desert), Sadie Sink (Odyssey), Dacre Montgomery (Power Rangers) and Brett Gelman (Brett Gelman’s Dinner in America). It will hit Netflix on October 27th.
