Sean Astin originally auditioned for a different part in Stranger Things season 2

November 7, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Sean Astin read for a part other than Bob when he auditioned for Stranger Things season 2.

Bob, a character played by Astin in season 2 of the hit sci-fi Netflix series, has quickly become a fan favourite thanks to his heroic antics, polite sensibility, lame jokes, and overall likeability.

But Astin actually auditioned for another role, only to be given the part of Bob because of how suited he was for the character.

Astin read for the part of Murray Bauman, the conspiracy theorist who helps the kids get the word out about the experiments and cover ups happening in their town.

“I got a call right away saying they thought it was fantastic, but they actually think you’re more right for another character, Bob,” he told Variety. “I went back the next day and auditioned again for 10 minutes, and then I got a call saying they loved me for it.”

It was certainly a great shout by the producers, something that fans across the world will surely attest.

It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.

The second season of Stranger Things sees the return of cast members Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer and Joe Keery, along with new additions Sean Astin (The Goonies), Paul Reiser (Aliens), Linnea Berthelsen (The Desert), Sadie Sink (Odyssey), Dacre Montgomery (Power Rangers) and Brett Gelman (Brett Gelman’s Dinner in America).
