Dwayne Johnson hopes to break the video game adaptation curse with Rampage

November 19, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Earlier this week, Warner Bros. unveiled the first trailer for Rampage, an adaptation of the 80s arcade game, with Dwayne Johnson taking on the lead role of a primatologist out to save the world against a mutated giant gorilla, werewolf and lizard.

As always when a new video game adaptation is announced, the question is raised whether this could be the movie to break the dreaded “video game adaptation curse” – and that’s something The Rock has addressed on social media, stating that he hopes to have learned his lesson from 2005’s Doom.

Thank you guys for the trust.
I’m ultra focused aka “f*cking obsessed”;) to overcome the “video game adaptation curse” and delivering something great w/ #RampageMovie.
Plus, remember, I made and failed w/ Doom years ago. Lessons learned my friend.💀💪🏾 https://t.co/eq2t7H6rF0

What are your thoughts? Based on the trailer, might Rampage be the movie to finally break the video game adaptation curse? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

“Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry transforms this gentle ape into a raging monster. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered alpha predators. As these newly created monsters tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.”

Rampage is set for release on April 20th 2018 and features a cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Naomie Harris, Joe Manganiello, Malin Akerman, Marley Shelton, Jake Lacy, Breanne Hill, P.J. Byrne, Jack Quaid, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Matt Gerald.
