James Gunn releases Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 script online

November 22, 2017 by Samuel Brace

James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, has released the film’s script online.

It’s always interesting to see differences between page and screen when it comes to popular movies, and this is certainly the case with one of 2017’s biggest hit, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Luckily, to go along with the script’s release, Gunn has offered some helpful tweets to enhance the reading experience, answering some questions that fans may have when delving into the screenplay’s pages.

He touched on things such as whether he will release the script for the first Guardians of the Galaxy (he won’t), the formatting of the script, and a host of insider information that film enthusiasts will appreciate.

He also spoke about how some of the lines and jokes in the film are actually different than what’s on the page:

“Some lines are different.” Gunn explained on Twitter. “These are the lines that were actually written without including any of the improvisation by the actors on set. And some lines were cut from the film… Improvisation is only ever encouraged AFTER we have the scene shot as written. Most improv on set is by me or Chris.”

Gunn then provided some information regarding the film’s post credit scenes:

“All of the post-credits scenes were included all the way back in the treatment – I didn’t discuss them with Marvel beforehand, but they liked them. EXCEPT the Stakar/Ravagers scene, which I wrote after we had completed primary filming.

“I awoke with a vision of the Stakar Ravagers scene in my head and couldn’t stop thinking about it for days. We almost didn’t include the Adam Warlock scene because he was definitely not in Avengers 3 or 4 and we had no plans for him in general.”

To find to what else Gunn has to say, head over to his twitter thread.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 sees director James Gunn reuniting with returning cast members Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Sean Gunn (Kraglin) and Laura Haddock (Meredith Quill) alongside new additions Pom Klementieff (Oldboy) as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) as Ayesha, Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight) as Ego the Living Planet, Chris Sullivan (The Drop) as Taserface, Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy) as Tullk and Sylvester Stallone (Creed) as Stakar.
