Russell Crowe wants to set sail with Master and Commander sequel

November 28, 2017 by Matt Rodgers

When The Truman Show director Peter Weir launched Master and Commander back in 2003, it was to be the first voyage of many, with a post-Gladiator Russell Crowe captaining a franchise based on Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey Maturin novels.

Unfortunately, despite positive reviews, the $93 million domestic gross against a $150 million budget meant that 20th Century Fox packed away the sails for good.

Since then, as with all great seafaring tales, there have been whispers and rumours about potential further installments, and they appear to be gaining traction, for Captain Jack Aubrey himself has tweeted the following:

For the Aubrey Maturin lovers , I do hear whispers indeed that a second voyage is perhaps potentially pre-proposed a possibility . So O’Brian affectionate’s and aficionados , let @20thcenturyfox know of your pleasure . pic.twitter.com/HqyE8y15Uu

Before we get our hopes up for another adaptation, remember this isn’t the first time that Crowe has requested a call-to-arms from the fans, tweeting a similar request in 2010.

Are you going to join Crowe in his quest to set-sail once again, or is there a reason that we’ve not had any further adventures. If Jack Sparrow can get a five-film franchise, why not a more worthy Captain?
