Kevin Feige describes Avengers 4 as a “finale”, says 20 more Marvel movies in the pipeline

November 28, 2017 by Gary Collinson

In 2018, the Marvel Cinematic Universe celebrates its tenth anniversary with the release of Avengers: Infinity War, which – along with its 2019 sequel – brings together virtually every hero from the MCU as they do battle against the Mad Titan Thanos and his Black Order.

We’ve heard on several occasions that the two Avengers movies will mark both an end and a new beginning for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has now reiterated that during an interview with Vanity Fair.

“[Avengers 4 will] bring things you’ve never seen in superhero films: a finale. There will be two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are expecting.”

There’s been a lot of speculation that Infinity War and its untitled sequel could see the deaths of several major characters from the Cinematic Universe as contracts expire and talent look to move on to pastures new. However, Marvel still has plenty in store for Phase Four and beyond, with Feige adding that: “22 movies in, and we’ve got another 20 movies on the docket that are completely different from anything that’s come before—intentionally.”

So far, all we know about Marvel’s Phase Four plans are that it will begin in 2019 with Spider-Man: Homecoming 2, and that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will follow, potentially in 2020. There’s also expected to be an increased emphasis on the cosmic side of the MCU, with James Gunn working alongside Feige to oversee this.

What movies do you think Marvel has in the pipeline? Are there any specific characters you’d like to see taking a backseat or moving to the forefront after Avengers 4? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27th 2018 in the UK and May 4th 2018 in the US and will feature an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Sean Gunn (Rocket, Kraglin), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Winston Duke (M’Baku) and Peter Dinklage and Terry Notary in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
