The Russos on killing off characters in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4

November 29, 2017 by Gary Collinson

As we’ve heard on countless occasions now, the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled sequel are set to serve as a “finale” of sorts for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, kickstarting a new wave of films for Phase Four and beyond.

Naturally, there’s a lot of speculation that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes won’t come out of their epic battle with Thanos entirely unscathed, with fans expecting the two superhero epics to feature the deaths of some of our beloved Marvel heroes. And, speaking to Vanity Fair, co-director Anthony Russo has pretty much confirmed that to be the case.

“We know who we’re allowed to kill, and that’s about it,” said Russo when asked whether he and his brother Joe are involved in shaping the franchise post-Infinity War. “I don’t even think Marvel had any ideas about where they would go after [Avengers 3 and 4]. It’s not an end for all of these characters; it’s an end for some of these characters. So some of these characters will go on. So it’s more complicated, that’s why it’s not a clean ending.”
