David S. Goyer in talks to direct Masters of the Universe for Sony

December 1, 2017 by Ricky Church

The Masters of the Universe film is one big step closer to being made as The Wrap reports that Sony has begun talks with David S. Goyer to direct the film. Goyer has previously directed Blade: Trinity and helped craft Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy.

Goyer has already written the script for the film, having done so when McG was directing before stepping down earlier this year. Sony seems to be confident enough in Goyer’s vision to let him helm the long-developed project.

The film is based upon the Mattel 80’s toyline which spawned several animated shows, notably of course He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, along with the 1987 live-action film Masters of the Universe starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man. In the series, Prince Adam of Eternia gains the power to become He-Man, a strong protector of the universe who must battle the evil forces of Skeletor for peace.

Sony has set Masters of the Universe for a December 18th, 2019 release date.
