Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow signs on for X-Men spin-off X-Force

July 12, 2013 by admin

We’ve known for some time that 20th Century Fox plans to capitalise on its Marvel movie rights, with Mark Millar being brought to serve as a Joss Whedon-esque creative consultant for a cohesive universe, Bryan Singer uniting the two X-Men timelines with next year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Chronicle helmer Josh Trank overseeing The Fantastic Four for release in 2015.

Now we can add another X-Movie to that list, with The Hollywood Reporter confirming the recent rumours about a planned X-Force adaptation. Furthermore, the site has revealed that Jeff Wadlow has signed on to pen the screenplay for an adaptation of the 1990s spin-off comic, which centres on a more aggressive mutant team with a roster that has included the likes of Cable, Deadpool and Wolverine. Wadlow has recently cut his teeth in the superhero genre writing and directing the upcoming sequel Kick-Ass 2 for Universal, and it’s said that he’s also looking to direct X-Force.

Talk of an X-Force movie first surfaced on Thursday when it emerged that the studio had registered the domain X-ForceMovie.com, suggesting that a feature was already in development. Bleeding Cool subsequently ‘confirmed’ this to be the case, reporting that Fox will use its Hall H presentation at Comic-Con next Saturday to announce plans for an extended X-Men movie universe. Will this be limited solely to X-Force? We’ll just have to wait and see..
