Hugh Jackman said goodbye to Wolverine with “tears” in his eyes

December 6, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Hugh Jackman has commented on the emotions he felt when saying goodbye to Wolverine.

This year Hugh Jackman finally said goodbye to the character Wolverine, giving his final performance as the mutant in the critically acclaimed Logan.

The actor had portrayed the fan favourite X-Man for 17 years so it was no easy thing to do. In an interview with Variety, Jackman touched on this, explaining how he felt and the regret he has.

“I wish I’d started playing him like that 17 years ago,” Jackman said. “So there’s some sense of missed opportunity, but when I saw Logan, I sat there and I did have tears in my eyes. The main feeling I had was: “There, that’s the character. I feel like I’ve done it now.” And I was calm and at peace, but I’m going to miss that guy.”

There is certainly a difference looking back between the Wolverine we see in Logan and the one in 2000’s X-Men, but the character has evolved over time so perhaps Jackman is selling himself a little short.

Regardless, Jackman is obviously proud of his work and will miss the role as much as many fans will miss seeing him play it.

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

Logan reunites Hugh Jackman with The Wolverine director James Mangold and also stars Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Dafne Keen, Eriq La Salle, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Elise Neal.
