Regina Hall joins the Shaft sequel

December 13, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Variety is reporting that Regina Hall (Girls Trip) has become the latest addition to the cast of the upcoming Shaft sequel / reboot, which is being directed by Tim Story (Ride Along).

The new film will see both Richard Roundtree and Samuel L. Jackson reprising their roles as John Shaft and his nephew John Shaft II, while Jesse T. Usher (Independence Day: Resurgence) plays Jackson’s son, John Shaft Jr. Also featuring in the cast is Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Apocalypse).

The loginline for the new film reads: “Working for the FBI, estranged from his father and determined not to be anything like him, John Shaft Jr. reluctantly enlists his father’s help to find out who killed his best friend Karim and bring down a drug-trafficking/money-laundering operation in NYC.”

Production on Shaft is set to get underway this month, and the film is slated for release on June 14th 2019.
