Alex Kurtzman says “you can do things with Venom that you can’t do with Spider-Man”

September 10, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Following the mixed reception to The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony decided to push The Amazing Spider-Man 3 to the backburner in favour of exploring the bad guys of the Spider-Man universe with 2016’s The Sinister Six. Meanwhile the studio is currently developing another villain-based spin-off centred on fan favourite Spidey foe Venom, which is apparently going by the title of Venom Carnage.

Speaking to MTV, Venom director Alex Kurtzman has offered a few words on the film, and specifically the appeal of the symbiote, stating that: “The idea is that you can do things with Venom that you can’t do with Spider-Man. Venom is the representation of every line that will get crossed. He’s a much darker character.”

Kurtzman then went on to rule out his involvement with The Amazing Spider-Man 3, as well as offering some advice on how Sony can continue the franchise: “I think as long as it keeps staying true to character, and true to who Peter is, and putting him in interesting and complicated situations, it’ll survive because it’s so beloved – everybody loves Spider-Man.”

Are you looking forward to seeing Venom? Let us know your thoughts on the spin-off…
