Tatiana Maslany, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Elizabeth Debicki wanted for female lead in Gemini Man

January 14, 2018 by Gary Collinson

According to THR, Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Fargo) and Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) are testing for the female lead opposite Will Smith in Ang Lee’s upcoming action sci-fi movie Gemini Man.

The actresses are reportedly in contention for the role of Danny, an operative tasked with surveilling Smith’s character Henry, an aging assassin who wants to get out of the business but finds himself in a battle with the ultimate opponent: his clone, who is 25 years younger and at the peak of his abilities. In addition, Clive Owen (Sin City) is also in talks to portray one of the film’s villains, the head of the cloning program.

Gemini Man has spent the past twenty years in development hell, having first been set up at Disney in 1997 with Tony Scott directing. However, the plan to have the same actor portraying both the assassin and his younger clone via digital trickery proved very difficult due to technological limitations – something which Hollywood has now overcome.

Production on Gemini Man is expected to begin in February, so expect more casting news in the coming weeks.
