28 Weeks Later director in talks with Disney for live-action The Sword in the Stone remake

January 21, 2018 by Gary Collinson

It seems that the box office disappointment of Warner Bros.’ King Arthur: Legend of the Sword hasn’t put Disney off its plans for its own Arthurian tales, with THR reporting that Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is in talks to direct a live-action adaptation of the 1963 animated film The Sword in the Stone.

The project is being produced by Brigham Taylor (The Jungle Book), with the script having been penned by Game of Thrones writer-producer Bryan Cogman. It is one of two King Arthur projects in development at Disney, with the studio also working on The Merlin Saga, which has Ridley Scott attached as a potential director.

Disney has a host of live-action remakes of its animated back catalogue in various stages of development, with Christopher Robin set for release this August, followed by Dumbo, Aladdin and The Lion King in 2019.
