Disney sets screenwriters for Toy Story 4 and Oliver!

January 22, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Disney has set Black List screenwriter Stephany Folsom to work on the script for its upcoming Pixar sequel Toy Story 4.

The project, which is slated for release in June 2019, was originally being penned by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, who left the project due to “creative and philosophical differences”.

Jones went on to deny a report from THR which suggested that the departure was due to an unwanted advance from Pixar’s John Lasseter, who was originally slated to direct the sequel before handing over the reigns to Pixar veteran Josh Cooley. Lasseter is currently on a sabatical as he considers “missteps” in his behaviour towards women.

Folsom gained attention with her Black List script 1969: A Space Odyssey Or: How Kubrick Learned To Stop Worrying And Land On The Moon, and went on to work on the script for Thor: Ragnarok, although she was denied a credit due to WGA rules.

Meanwhile, the studio has also announced that Danny Strong (The Butler, Game Change) has signed on to work on the script for Disney’s remake of Oliver!, which has Tony Award-winner Thomas Kaul (Hamilton) set to direct and Ice Cube attached to star as Fagin.
