Forest Whitaker suggests that Black Panther could go into outer space?

January 23, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

We know that Marvel  has plans to further explore the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe during Phase Four, but could we be heading into outer space this February with the studio’s next release Black Panther? Well, the latest comments from Forest Whitaker seem to suggest that is a possibility…

“I think people are waiting to find something new,” said Whitaker in an interview with Variety. “This superhero from Africa who is in this society and trying to fix the world is something that hasn’t been seen before. I think Ryan Coogler is a great director so there’s always going to be some social conscious inside of it. We’re going to see not only tribal things, but things that take us into outer space, things that take us into the James Bond space. It’s a really unique amalgamation of different things that come together in an exciting way.”

Of course, rather than taking those comments literally, it’s possible that Whitaker is simply referring to Wakanda’s advanced technology having the ability to take us into outer space, which seems more likely. Still, we don’t have long to find out either way…

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakandan special forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.

Black Panther sees Ryan Coogler (Creed) directing Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa alongside Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Forest Whitaker as Zuri, Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Florence Kasumba as Ayo, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, Letitia Wright as Shuri and Nabiyah Be as Nightshade. The film is set for release on February 12th in the UK and on February 16th in the States.
