Vince Gilligan has hit some trouble with a section of Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul continuity

January 24, 2018 by Samuel Brace

There is a part of the Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul continuity that is causing Vince Gilligan and his writing team trouble.

Prequels are always tricky to perfect. Having to deal with continuity, right down to the small details can be troubling, especially when fans are so heavily invested in the world and the characters that have been established.

Better Call Saul has done a remarkable job in its role as a prequel series to Breaking Bad, but one issue that creator Vince Gilligan is finding, has to do with Jimmy’s (Saul) apparent two ex-wives, and they haven’t yet found a way around it.

“I’ll tell you a tricky one,” Gilligan told Screen Rant. “Off the top of my head, there was some casual reference Saul Goodman made way back in Breaking Bad about being married twice or three times or something like that. That one has bedeviled us for sure. It was just a goofy throwaway line in an episode of BB where Saul Goodman talked about his second wife or some such and that has bedeviled us. We’re trying to figure that one out. When did he a wife? And who was the second wife? Who was his first wife? Blah blah blah. That was a tricky one.”

Fans can certainly take solace in knowing how much the writers are agonising over minor issues like this, and hopefully, when they come to a solution, it will be one that remains consistent with what we already know about the character.
