Domhnall Gleeson asked Rian Johnson to include an important Hux moment in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

January 24, 2018 by Samuel Brace

A key moment for Domhnall Gleeson’s character Hux in Star Wars: The Last Jedi was included at the actor’s behest.

The Last Jedi has now had its moment in the sun but fans are still wading through all the fascinating and even divisive moments from the movie. One moment that isn’t getting as much attention, however, was particularly important for Gleeson, the actor behind First Order villain General Hux.

When Hux walks into the throne room, seeing that Snoke is dead and that Kylo Ren was likely the perpetrator, he reaches for his weapon momentarily, hoping to use it on his rival, before realising that it wouldn’t end well for him.

“That was the one moment I asked Rian for,” Gleeson told IMDb. “General Hux is like a kicked dog for the whole movie, he just keeps on getting thrown into stuff and bullied, and I was like, ‘I wouldn’t like people to forget that he’s also a really nasty piece of work and could have an effect on the way things move forward.’”

It was certainly an interesting moment and served as a good reminder to the audience of what Hux is capable of. Of course, he is quickly pushed around by Ren for the rest of the film but the new Supreme Leader will do well to keep an eye on his second in command.
