Warner Bros. wants David Ayer to direct Suicide Squad movie

September 19, 2014 by Gary Collinson

We’ve known for a while that Warner Bros. has been developing a Suicide Squad movie under producer Dan Lin (The LEGO Movie) and now it seems that the studio has identified a director to bring the team of DC villains to the big screen.

According to Variety, studio executives apparently view David Ayer as a good fit for the “dark and edgy” movie, which will presumably take one of Warner’s as yet-unrevealed DC release dates. Ayer’s previous credits include End of Watch and Sabotage, along with the upcoming World War II film Fury starring Brad Pitt.

The Suicide Squad centres on a team of incarcerated supervillains who are given a shot at redemption by Amanda Waller by taking on highly dangerous suicide missions in order to cut time from their sentences. Over the years, the team has included characters such as Deadshot, Count Vertigo, Captain Boomerang, Bronze Tiger, Killer Frost, King Shark, Black Spider and Harley Quinn.
